Mongolia Solar Eclipse 22 July 2009

A partial Solar Eclipse will be seen in Mongolia on the morning of July 22nd, 2009.
The eclipse will begin at 8:27am reach it's maximum at 9:22am and finish at 10:22am

Where
In Ulaanbaatar the moon will cover at the maximum period 40% of the sun for about 6 minutes.

In the Gobi desert in south Mongolia the moon will cover 60% of the Sun. In the Gobi there is a better chance of having a clear sky during the eclipse.

Full eclipse will be seen further south in parts of China.






Why
When the Moon passes between Earth and Sun, it covers part of the Sun view.













Eye Protection
It is recommended to use special dark glasses like those used by welders. Sun glasses do not give sufficient protection for the eyes when looking at the Sun.
